F1 | Ferrari "unhappy, disappointed" as FIA dismisses their plea for Sebastian Vettel's penalty review. Details here

F1 Team Ferrari was summoned by The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile with regards to their request to review the penalty Sebastian Vettel received. The German F1 driver was penalised for rejoining the track dangerously, forcing Lewis Hamilton off the road, after running wide into the first chicane while leading the Canadian Grand Prix. The five-second penalty cost Vettel what could've been his first win of the season. Ferrari was hoping that the penalty will be overturned but to their dismay, FIA rejected their plea to review the penalty.

Ferrari was confident and stated that they had “pretty overwhelming” new evidence to present to the stewards at a hearing at Paul Ricard between the two practice sessions for the French Grand Prix.

However, the stewards from the Canadian Grand Prix , who convened at Paul Ricard with one joining via teleconference, decided there are “no significant and relevant new elements which were unavailable to the parties at the time of the competition concerned”. Therefore, a review will not take place.

Out of the seven items presented by Ferrari as evidence, the stewards said that five were already available with them when they imposed the penalty. Ferrari was banking on a video analysis performed by Karun Chandhok for Sky Sports F1, but it was declared “new but not significant and relevant as this is a personal opinion by a third party” by the stewards.

According to the stewards, the evidence that was available when making the decision was analysis of the telemetry data of Vettel’s car, video analysis of multiple camera views, post-race video images and analysis of the GPS racing line data of both Hamilton and Vettel in the lap of the incident and the previous race laps.

Addressing the media on Friday, Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto said "No doubt that as Ferrari we are all very unhappy and disappointed. We're disappointed certainly for Ferrari, but we are disappointed for the fans and for our sport. We do not intend to comment any further.”

The review as on Friday is closed. Ferrari will be hoping to do well in the qualifying at Circuit Paul Ricard on Saturday to start front grid in the race on Sunday.
