Tyler Wright made history in Hawaii on Monday to become the world's No.1-ranked surfer after winning the Maui Pro, which had been moved due to a fatal shark attack.

Wright is the first ever women's WSL event winner at Pipeline after the event, which was initially scheduled for Honolua Bay was moved to Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline after a shark attack two weeks ago on a local surfer.

The 26-year-old eliminated fellow Australian Sally Fitzgibbons in the semi-finals and then beat four-time world champion Carissa Moore in the final to win her first WSL title since 2017 after three disrupted years on the circuit.

In a tight final where few waves were ridden, Wright managed to win by 1.1 points, coming away with a two-wave score of 8.34.

The Australian scored 3.17 in the final moments to secure the win.
