III Summer Youth Olympic Games to kickstart from October 6, Google Doodle celebrates!

The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games are all set to start on October 6 and Google celebrated its start with a specialized Doodle. This is the third edition of the games hosted by Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games are all set to start on October 6 and Google celebrated its start with a specialized Doodle!

The creative doodle is conceptualised and created by Cynthia Yuan Cheng and Vrinda Zaveri. It displays animated bird in various sports like Cycling, Weight Lifting, Judo and Gymnastics. New games like kite-boarding and BMX freestyle park are introduced this year. A new version of handball played on the beach, is also part of the game. Football has been replaced with Futsal, a similar game played indoors with lesser number of players.

The third edition of the Youth Olympic Games is taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina with more than 200 countries participating. Kosovo and South Sudan will make their Youth Olympics debut. Around 4,000 athletes will be taking part in the games of the age 15 to 18. The opening ceremony is on October 6 and the competitions will start from October 7 and go on till October 18. The games are organised every four years. Previous games were held in Singapore (2010) and China (2014).

It is the first series of these games to be held outside Asia. Interestingly, it is also the first to organize its opening ceremony outside a stadium which will be open to all public. The slogan of these games is ''Feel The Future''. The mascot names ' Pandi ' is a jaguar native to the country. Several sports events will be organised in more than 30 categories including Triathlon, Fencing, Futsal and Taekwondo. 

The 68-member Indian contingent is the largest contingent ever from our country. From India, 47 sportspersons will be competing across 13 sports categories like field hockey, archery, swimming, badminton, boxing, judo among others. Manu Bhaker, a 16-year-old shooter and a CWG gold medallist, will be the flag bearer in the opening ceremony, which is set to take place at the iconic Obelisk of Buenos Aires on October 6 (IST 4:30 a.m. on October 7).
