Highlining is not a sport for the faint hearted, and last week some of the world's best gathered in Russia for the third international highline festival. Arguably one of the most spectacular sports in the world, highlining is walking over a thin slack line whilst hovering high above deep canyons, a bit like an acrobat.

However dangerous it may sound, experienced highline walkers insist it's safe, as long as you stick to the rules.

The biggest fear, sometimes impossible to overcome, is simply psychological.

Two competitions were held within the program of the festival: the one for the speediest walk and that for the most extravagant trick on the slack.

World highline record holders Freidi Kuhne and Lukas Irmler attended the event.

Kuhne has recently walked the longest highline in the world blindfolded.

As much of the world self isolates to protect themselves from the coronavirus threat, SNTV looks back into it's archives to revisit the weird and wonderful solo sports that require minimal human contact.
