Lewis Hamilton to have contract renewal talks with Mercedes amidst Ferrari rumours

Six-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton recently spoke at a press conference about his future with Mercedes and a speculated move to Ferrari. Hamilton has been with the Mercedes team since 2013 and has won five titles in his time with the team. His current contract, which was renewed in 2018, will expire by the end of 2020.

Confident about continuing his career

Hamilton, who is currently 34, commented that he was feeling good about how his career was shaping up and really 'enjoying' what he is doing. The six-time world champion implied that he was not looking at a retirement, at least in the near future. Talking about his time with Mercedes, Hamilton said that he does not have a clear plan about the approach he will be taking.

The British driver talked about how his opinions and goals change from time to time and it is hard for him to imagine committing to a single contract. He also talked about how it can be overwhelming to think about signing a new contract in such less time, referring to his last contract renewal with Mercedes which happened in 2018. Hamilton also made sure to convey the trust that both Mercedes and him share. By saying that 'our word is bond', Hamilton explained that him and Mercedes have always stood by each other. It is being highly speculated that Hamilton may make a move to Ferrari.

Will Toto Wolff's decision affect Hamilton?

It is being speculated that Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff may be leaving the team in favour of a bigger role in the F1. Hamilton commented that he liked the way things are in Wolff's presence and wants him to stay but he also believes that every person has the option to 'spread their wings' and elevate their career. He was positive about Mercedes not being too affected even if Wolff left as most of the team would still remain intact. He clarified that he had no idea about Wolff's future. Hamilton won his sixth and third-consecutive F1 title this year.
