Media get tour of Tokyo 2020 Athletes’ Village that's made entirely from timber

With less than 6 months to go before the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Games in Japan, Tokyo 2020 organizers invited representatives of 62 municipalities across Japan and the media for a tour of the Village Plaza in the Athletes' Village on Wednesday.

These 63 municipalities have joined "Operation BATON", Building Athletes' Village with Timber Of the Nation.

Under the project aiming to construct the village Plaza using sustainably sourced Japanese timber, the building was built by using timber donated by these municipalities.

The donated timbers are used in the construction of the pillars and flooring.

The timber will be returned to the municipalities and reused in the communities.

The Village Plaza will be one of the main facilities in the Athletes' Village and used as the venue for the team welcome ceremonies.

In the facility, there will be general store, café, and media center during the Games.
