This was followed by her winning the gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in 2013. Soon, she became the first Indian pistol shooter to be ranked world no.1 by the ISSF. In 2017, the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Brisbane witnessed her magic as she clinched yet another gold medal. But Sidhu broke all records when she went past Elena Galibovitch to hit 38 shots on target in the final round at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, winning a gold medal in the women’s 25m air pistol event.
The inspiration behind #BharatKiLaxmi
In his weekly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that daughters are considered as ‘Laxmi’ in Indian culture which implies that they are the harbinger of prosperity. Drawing inspiration from this, MyGov commenced a contest, inviting citizens to submit their entries to bring into the spotlight the cases of numerous women who have brought glory to the country. The last date for participating in this initiative is October 27.
