As the NBA India Games kicked off on Friday, John Abraham was one of those in attendance. The actor said he is excited and hopes to see an Indian team in NBA.

While cricket is considered a religion in India, the other sports are also gaining prominence of late. Football, kabaddi, hockey leagues have been launched with success, along with the achievements in badminton, leaving audiences glued to their screens. But that’s not all, Indians have proved they are sports lovers, with the massive popularity of the English Premier League in India and even the NBA has a loyal fan base. And that could explain why NBA has came to India for the first time with Indiana Pacers and Sacremento Kings playing pre-season encounters. Apart from the die-hard fans of the sport making an appearance at the match, even Bollywood stars came out to be a part of the sporting action. One of them was John Abraham, who said he was excited about NBA arriving in India for the first time. The actor also wished that India also gets a team soon.

Republic TV caught with John Abraham for an exclusive chat as he arrived to watch the game. When asked about the popular tournament coming to India for the first time, the Batla House star said that he felt very good and was ‘excited.’  

John Abraham has always been associated with sports, be it the doing sports-based films or being the co-owner of the North East United FC. “It’s better when you enjoy a game, rather than owning a team. Let me tell you that,” he quipped when asked about his love for sports.

John Abraham also said that he really enjoys watching the Los Angeles Clippers play, among the current teams of the NBA. 

A message to the fans of basketball in India? “Keep the sport alive and enjoy the games, and hope we have a team soon,” John shared.

Bollywood presence

Before John, Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja were among the attendees of the event. A day before too, Anand Ahuja was seen at a bash ahead of the tournament’s start. Priyanka Chopra too was spotted at the event on Thursday. 

The Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings will play each other on October 4 and October 5 as a part of the pre-season games.
