Olympic flame visited Okinawa Islands, the southern-most prefecture of Japan

The Olympic torch relay for Tokyo 2020 in Okinawa Prefecture started on Saturday from Naha city, the capital city of the prefecture, the southernmost one of Japan.

The Olympic torch relay for Tokyo 2020 in Okinawa Prefecture started on Saturday from Naha city, the capital city of the prefecture, the southernmost one of Japan.

It is the 37th day for the event in Japan after the flame took two days transit from Kagoshima to Okinawa.

The relay of the flame lasts two days on the Okinawa Islands. One tourist site the torch visited on its journey on Saturday include Shurijo Castle, a World Heritage Site in the city of Naha.

However, a leg of the relay on Okinawa's resort island of Miyakojima set for Sunday has been canceled altogether with coronavirus cases surging in Japan.

The Tokyo Olympic torch relay will be held across all 47 prefectures of Japan over 121 days.

It will end on July 23rd at the Opening Ceremonies in Tokyo.
