Olympic medal is the logical conclusion, no longer an illusion: Hima Das

Setting her sight on timing and not medal has been a key to success for Hima Das who believes Olympic medal is no longer unachievable. 

"Yes we can dare to dream now and we have every right to. Don't you feel the same? All eyes are on us now. We know we can and we will," Hima Das told Republic TV in an exclusive interview on her return to India after winning a gold & two silver medals from the just-concluded Asian Games in Jakarta.

Reflecting on her historic first-ever gold in World Youth Athletics Championship, Hima said: "Yes, breaķing that barrier was important. Winning an unprecedented gold was crucial. But if we do not go the distance, it will be alľ futile. I mean winning a medal at the Olympics is no longer unreal," she asserted.

Revealing her immediate and future plans, Hima said: "I am focussing on 200m. That's my pet event. I am also going for 400m. Not really looking at 100m sprint at this stage. But yes, I may switch at a later stage with stronger muscles."

When asked what was the secret of her success, the sprinter from Assam said: "I never think of medals. I just focus on my timing and how to better it. Medals just come along. That's the secret."

Hima will be training for the States and Nationals from next month and does not mind to start from the scratch once again. "I have to maintain the speed and fitness. No harm in participating in the State and National Championship," she noted. 

For now, Hima wants to savour the moment with a resolve to get better run faster and attain greater heights.
