PM Modi urges athletes Dipa Karmakar, Sakshi Malik and Hima Das to encourage voter participation in Lok Sabha polls

With the election season coming up, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making an effort that all the citizens of India come out and cast their vote. 

The Prime Minister has been encouraging personalities from across various sectors to make sure that their presence results in people learning about their responsibility of voting.

And in this regard, he took to Twitter and tagged athletes Dipa Karmakar, Sakshi Malik and Hima Das to do the same.

In another of his tweets, the Prime Minister had requested India's cricketing trio of Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin to encourage voter participation in the upcoming elections.

Just a few days ago, the Prime Minister had written a similar message for the three big heavyweights of Indian cricket - MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma - asking them to help the country set voting record.

"Dear MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharm, You are always setting outstanding records on the cricketing field but this time, do inspire the 130 crore people of India to set a new record of high voter turnout in the upcoming elections. When this happens, democracy will be the winner!" he had tweeted on March 13.

The Lok Sabha polls 2019 will commence on April 11, will be held in seven phases, and will conclude on May 19, with the counting of votes taking place on May 23.
