  • Abhinav Shaw, a 10-year-old, has taken the nation by storm with his unbelievable performance in shooting over the past year
  • At the tender age of 10, Shaw has the nation at his feet, and soon hopes to rule the world just like Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra made the nation proud and made sure India's flag rose the highest in 2008 when he won a Gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. And now, a namesake of his, despite being much younger in age, has the same ambitions.

Abhinav Shaw, a 10-year-old, has taken the nation by storm with his unbelievable performance in shooting over the past year. Born in Asansol in West Bengal, the rising superstar is the youngest national champion in the sport.

He recently won the Gold medal in U-21 10m Air Rifle mixed category in the inaugural Khelo India Youth Games, but while speaking to Republic TV, was down to earth about his achievement.

"He (Shaw) actually doesn't know what he has done. This is just the beginning. It is just the trailer," his father said. "It was just an aim to win. My target was to win Gold for the state," Shaw said when asked what he felt about his recent success.

At the tender age of 10, Shaw has the nation at his feet, and soon hopes to rule the world just like Abhinav Bindra. But the tremendous success hasn't come on plate for him.

His father mentioned that Shaw's success as a shooter wasn't overnight, and that the 10-year-old had to work hard for it. He was, as soon as turning 8, enrolled in the Asansol rifle club, following which, he practiced there every Sunday, no matter what.

Further, on the fun side, Shaw's father also revealed that it wasn't any coincidence that his first name was similar to Abhinav Bindra, and in fact, it was a planned move by the parents.

"We had planned it, if there is a boy, he will be named after Abhinav Bindra. We didn't thought of (him taking up shooting). We named him after the great Abhinav Bindra. It didn't mean that I want him to be a sportsman and shooting, so that doesn't mean that he also wants to be it. But my dreams, I am seeing in him," he added.
