Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko wanted the drivers of the F1 team to deliberately contract the coronavirus, so that they could recover, become immune and be better placed to start the new season - whenever that may be.

The 76 year-old head of driver development made the extraordinary admission in an interview with Austrian broadcaster ORF.

Marko said the idea was put to the rest of the Red Bull management, but it was rejected.

"It didn't go down well," Marko told ORF.
