Tokyo Olympic organising committee president Yoshiro Mori says the 2020 Summer Olympics should be cancelled if they cannot be held in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Mori was quoted in an interview with Japanese sports daily Nikkan Sports published on Tuesday, but Tokyo organisers later said at a press briefing that the comments reflected his own opinion only.

Mori was also said the Olympics and Paralympics could share opening and closing ceremonies as a way to cut costs.

The Tokyo Olympics have been rescheduled for July 23rd to August 8th, 2021.
