Verstappen pips Hamilton to pole position in qualifying for the US Grand Prix

Max Verstsappen knocked Lewis Hamilton off the top spot in the final seconds of Saturday's qualifying sessions at the Circuit of the Americas to clinch pole position for the United States Grand Prix.

Max Verstsappen knocked Lewis Hamilton off the top spot in the final seconds of Saturday's qualifying sessions at the Circuit of the Americas to clinch pole position for the United States Grand Prix.

Hamilton moved into provisional first place with his final lap in the third stage of qualifying, recording a lap time of one minute, 33.119 seconds to push Sergio Perez down one place.

But Perez's Red Bull team-mate Verstappen went just over two-tenths-of-a-second faster then his title rival, crossing the finishing line in one minute, 32.910 seconds.

Charles LeClerc will start on the second of the grid alongside Perez in Sunday's race after going fourth fastest, with his Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr. finishing the day in fifth.

The McLaren's of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris finished in sixth and seventh place respectively.
