Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. took sole possession of first place in the major leagues by hitting his 46th home run of the season Friday night.

The Blue Jays slugger hit a 0-1 pitch from Minnesota Twins starter Michael Pineda over the wall in left field to break a tie with Kansas City's Salvador Perez atop MLB's list.

According to MLB, Guerrero tied Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio for the second-most homers in a season by a player 22 years old or younger and moved within one of the record holder Eddie Mathews. Mathews hit 47 in 1953 for the Milwaukee Braves at age 21.
