Andrey Rublev looked ahead to the ATP 1000 Madrid Open on Saturday and said that although he wasn't sure whether clay was his best surface, he was certain that it was a test of 'real tennis'.

"You have to be physically fit, you have to be smart, how to play, where to play," the Russain number six seed said. "You have to be really fit to play each point, to play right directions and you need to go and really beat the guys."

Rublev has been given a bye into round two in Madrid, where he will await the winner of the first round match between Spanish wild card Pedro Martinez or Tommy Paul of the United States.
