Davis Cup: India’s upcoming tie against Pakistan likely to be played in Kazakhstan

India’s upcoming Davis Cup tie against Pakistan, which was supposed to be played in Islamabad, is reported to be played in Nur-Sultan, the capital city of Kazakhstan.

India-Pakistan Davis Cup tie likely to be played in Kazakhstan

The India-Pakistan tie was scheduled for September in Islamabad initially but  AITA wrote to The International Tennis Federation (ITF) asking for the tie to be shifted to a neutral venue after which the tie was rescheduled for November 29-30.

India had refused to travel to Pakistan due to ‘security reasons’. The ITF declared on November 4 that the venue for the game would be shifted to a neutral venue. The Pakistan Tennis Federation had earlier appealed to the ITF to reconsider its decision to shift the tie out of Islamabad, Pakistan, after the ITF ruled on November 4 that the tie should be held at a neutral venue but the world body is now poised to shift the tie anyway.

All India Tennis Association (AITA) secretary-general Hironmoy Chatterjee told a leading media network that the ITF had not confirmed it yet, but it seemed most likely that it would take place in Astana (Nur-Sultan) in Kazakhstan. He added that the ITF had not made the announcement yet, but they had written to AITA  and told them to start the visa process for Kazakhstan for the players. He also said that they had sent them a list of hotels.

Chatterjee said that the fact that ITF told them to start the visa process and gave us the hotel information meant it was most likely the tie will be moved to Kazakhstan and assured that they had started the visa process. He went on to say that the games would probably be played on indoor hard courts since it was very cold, as much as around -10 degrees Celsius.
