Brazilians Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani have spoken of their "pure happiness" after saving four match points in Saturday's women's doubles bronze match to secure their country's first ever Olympic medal in tennis.

The Brazilians came from a set down and trailing 5-9 in the tiebreak to win six consecutive points and beat the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) pair of Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina 4-6 6-4 11-9.

The duo's journey to Olympic bronze is an astonishing story in itself after they only entered the competition at the last minute – just one hour before the cut-off time.

Previously Brazil's best result in Olympic Tennis came when Fernando Meligeni finished fourth at Atlanta 1996.
