Wimbledon 2019: Cori Gauff's fairytale comes to an end as she loses to Simona Halep

American tennis prodigy Cori Gauff, 15, marked history by becoming the youngest player in the history of the Open era by advancing through the qualifying. The youngster has had an excellent run in the Wimbledon, she stunned tennis legend, Venus Williams and Polona Hercog earlier this week. Gauff's dream run came to an end on Monday, when the 15-year-old prodigy faced Romania's Simona Halep in the pre-quarterfinals.

American tennis prodigy Cori Gauff, 15, marked history by becoming the youngest player in the history of the Open era to have advanced through the qualifying rounds. The youngster has had an excellent run in Wimbledon, she stunned tennis legend, Venus Williams and Polona Hercog earlier this week.

Gauff's dream run came to an end on Monday, when the 15-year-old prodigy faced Romania's Simona Halep in the pre-quarterfinals. Halep has been World Number 1 for around 30 weeks in 2017 and has also won 18 WTA and 6 ITF tournaments. Her current ranking in the world is 7.

The 27-year-old experienced Romanian defeated the young Tennis star 6-3, 6-3. With her strong serves and even stronger nerves, she was clearly wearing her game face on Monday. What helped her win the match was the way she treated Gauff like any other opponent and not a junior player who had the potential to hamper her reputation as a player.

This treatment and mindset was what essentially helped Halep beat the 15-year-old superpower. After winning the match the former world No.1 thanked God and congratulated her opponent for her excellent performance so far.

Coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who has been working with Gauff since she was just a ten-year-old, said in an interview that, what was amazing about his student's on-court attitude was that when she was about to lose and was just a set away from losing the match, Mouratoglou suddenly saw a light go on in her and then her level of play was entirely different post that. Her attitude clearly showed her refusal to lose.

Gauff's father has also played a huge role in Gauff's career so far, he was seen in the stands supporting his daughter and bucking her up after every point.

Wimbledon took to their official Twitter account as they posted an adorable video of Gauff's father wishing her luck before her clash with Halep.

They also shared a post acknowledging Gauff's run so far. 

Wimbledon 2019 has given Gauff a newly formed fan following, her level of grit and passion on the court made all tennis fan and critiques vision her as the next Serena Williams of her generation.

While Gauff's dream run has come to an end at in this year's Wimbledon, however, her performance has is surely made the tennis circuit aware of the power that young athlete posses.
