BCCI Furbish New Domestic Rules: Retiring Hurt Considered Out Unless Batter Is Legitimately Injured

As the Indian Cricket's Domestic Season officially commences, the BCCI has revamped some of the rules that are expected to have a considerable impact on the playing conditions. The rules would aim to impact the game's integrity and character, and it could streamline the process of the match-up.

BCCI Redevelops Four Domestic Rules Ahead of Latest Ranji Trophy Season

As reported by Cricbuzz, The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) sent out an official documentation regarding the four changes in the rulebook, and it will be implemented in the latest season of the Ranji Trophy tournament. All the state teams were notified of the same.

1. Regarding a Batter's mid-innings Retirement

"A Batter retiring for any reason other than injury, illness or unavoidable cause: He will be considered as dismissed immediately on retirement and will NOT have the option of returning to bat even with the consent of the opposing captain," the reports mentioned.

Interestingly, the report also mentioned that this clause ended with the line, "Applicable for all BCCI domestic matches," including the white-ball and red-ball matches. It will also apply when the matches are in a situation of a Super Over.

2. Ban on the use of saliva over the ball is reinforced

The Indian Cricket Board has emphasized the use of saliva on the ball during bowling. The initial ban was imposed during the pandemic If a team applies saliva to the ball, the ball must be replaced immediately, and penalties will be imposed to the team who committed the offence. The rule has been solidified to ensure the game's integrity.

3. Aborted Runs Rule gets a revision

The aborted runs rule has underwent a revision, and the reports mentioned, "Once the batters decide to abort a run after crossing and a boundary results from an overthrow before they have re-crossed, only boundary 4 shall be scored."

4. Changes in Points Distribution for the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy

Scenario 1: "Team 'A' batting 1st is all out for 398 in 98 overs in the 1st innings (They will get 4 batting points). Team 'A' while fielding gets awarded 5 penalty runs as a result of which Team A's score now becomes 403 in 98 overs. Team 'A' will now get 5 batting points."

Scenario 2: "Team 'A' batting 1st is all out for 398 in 100.1 overs in the 1st innings (They will get 4 batting points). Team 'A' while fielding gets awarded 5 penalty runs as a result of which Team A's score now becomes 403 in 100.1 overs. They will not get the 5th Batting Point."
