Safety Concerns at Green Park Stadium

The upcoming Test match between India and Bangladesh , scheduled to take place at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium, might be in jeopardy due to safety concerns. The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has raised concerns about the structural integrity of one of the stands at the stadium, prompting the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) to limit ticket sales.

According to The Indian Express, only 1,700 tickets will be sold for the stand, which has a capacity of 4,800, as a precautionary measure. UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee confirmed that the PWD has identified some issues, and repair work will continue for the next couple of days. This decision prioritizes fan safety.

Floodlight Concerns

Another concern is the floodlights at the stadium, which could be a problem if bad light affects the game. The last time India played at the Green Park stadium was against New Zealand in November 2021, and poor visibility affected the last session of Day 5.

The stadium's infrastructure and maintenance have come under scrutiny after the latest report on the dangerous stand. The stadium is owned by the Uttar Pradesh government's sports department and is not directly under the UPCA or the BCCI.

Will the India vs Bangladesh Match be Called Off?

There has been no official announcement regarding the cancellation of the match. It is unlikely that the second Test match between India and Bangladesh will be called off as the UPCA has already been asked to accommodate fewer fans.
