Zaheer Khan Gives An Honest Take On 'Impact Sub' Rule

There has been a lot of noise around the 'Impact Sub' rule lately. The rule that was introduced in 2023 and is just couple of years old finds itself embroiled in controversy. During the seventeenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), ex-Team India T20I skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his reservations about the rule.

Rohit Sharma highlighted the point that the 'Impact Sub' rule doesn't allow the all-rounders to come into the fray and limits their chances of making into the final eleven and showcasing their talent. LSG mentor Zaheer Khan was asked about the rule in the franchise's press conference and he expressed his honest opinion on it.

'Putting on record, I am up for it, the 'Impact Sub' rule. It gives opportunities to a lot of uncapped Indian talent and that is something which you will see in this year's mega auction also. The teams will be looking at them so that the opportunity goes a long way with improving Indian cricket on the whole. The time spent, the match time is something that you can't bring. This has been the biggest plus of the 'Impact Sub' rule. As far as  all-rounders are concerned, there is no space for half all-rounders due to the 'Impact Sub' rule. If you are a genuine all-rounder, then nobody can stop you.', said Zaheer

Zaheer Khan will join Justin Langer in the Lucknow Super Giants camp. Langer was roped in as LSG's Head Coach. 'The former left-handed seamer, known to make the ball swing in both directions, is the most successful Indian fast bowler in Tests after Kapil Dev, with 311 wickets. He is also a veteran of 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is. With Zaheer Khan on board, our boys will look to bounce back stronger in IPL 2025 after narrowly missing out on a playoff spot in 2024', said LSG in a statement.
