'Surprised They Didn't Retain Him': Kumble Left Reeling After RCB’s Shocking Omission Of IND Upstart
Young India players included in India squad for the away tour get verbal support from Anil Kumble. He also praised the performance of one of RCB's best bowlers.
The IPL 2025 Retention saw several franchises making some crucial calls to retain some of their top players and maintain their core before the Mega Auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Notably, RCB has held on to three superstars -- Virat Kohli , Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal -- with the franchise walking into the mega auction with a purse amount of ₹83 Crore and three ‘Right to Match’ cards in hand. But a former India skipper was perplexed over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru management's decision to not pick a young star who made a name for himself in the preceding IPL season.

Anil Kumble Shocked With RCB's Decision To Not Pick Star Upstart During IPL 2025 Retention
During an appearance on the JioCinema's Insiders' Preview before the South Africa vs India T20I Series, Anil Kumble offered his verbal support for young India stars who are a part of the Men in Blue squad for the away tour. He highlighted Karnataka star Vyshak Vijaykumar, who came to prominence while competing for RCB during the IPL 2024 season. However, the former India skipper was perplexed by RCB's decision to let him go before the IPL Mega Auction.
"Vyshak is very talented. Another domestic player who has made a substantial impact for Karnataka. It was unfortunate he didn't receive enough chances at RCB; I was quite surprised they didn't retain him. But I hope he gets an opportunity in South Africa. He has all the variations needed for death-over bowling," Anil Kumble stated.

Anil Kumble also heaped praise on retained RCB star Yash Dayal and uncapped KKR retention, Ramandeep Singh. The former India skipper praised Ramandeep Singh's dynamic style of play and outstanding fielding abilities while also acknowledging the tenacity and growth of Dayal.
The South Africa Tour of India will feature Suryakumar Yadav leading a young and dynamic side as they lock horns against the Proteas Men. A number of Indian upstarts will be a part of the series, enhancing the excitement of witnessing the Men in Blue's young arsenal perform in away conditions.
