'From Rs 10.75 crore to 4 cr, 3.4 crore to 60 Lakhs': Indian players lost crores in IPL 2024 auction
Franchises spent over INR 230 crore or $276 million to buy 72 players including 30 overseas stars. Mitchell Starc became the most expensive buy at 24 crore.
The auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19. A total of 333 players went down under the hammer during the mega-bidding event. Franchises spent over INR 230 crore or $276 million to buy 72 players including 30 overseas stars. Mitchell Starc became the most expensive purchase at the auction as he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a hopping INR 24.75 crore.

List of 5 Indian players who lost crores at the auction
Nevertheless, not all players experienced a surge in wealth during the IPL 2024 auction, as some of them witnessed a significant reduction in their salaries compared to the previous year.
Manish Pandey: The veteran India batter was part of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 and was bought for INR 4.60 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders purchased the 34-year-old for only INR 50 lakh at the IPL 2024 auction.
Shardul Thakur: The Indian all-rounder was bought by KKR for INR 10.75 crore in the IPL 2023 auction. This year, Shardul has been purchased by Chennai Super Kings for only INR 4 crore.
Kartik Tyagi: Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Tyagi for INR 4 crore ahead of IPL 2023. Gujarat Titans purchased Tyagi for INR 60 lakh at the IPL 2024 auction.
Shahrukh Khan: Punjab Kings had bought the hard-hitting youngster for INR 9 crore at IPL 2023 auction. This year, he has been secured by Gujarat Titans for INR 7.40 crore.
Chetan Sakariya: Delhi Capitals bought the bowler for INR 4.20 crore at IPL 2023 auction. This year, Sakariya has been purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 50 lakh only.
