Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka has made a subtle dig at KL Rahul after the team's retentions for the IPL 2025 season were announced. Goenka stated that the team prioritized players with a "mindset to win" and who would put the team's interests above their personal aspirations.

Sanjiv Goenka takes a jibe at KL Rahul

While Sanjiv Goenka didn't mention KL Rahul directly, the comment seems to be a veiled reference to the released players, including Rahul, who captained the side for three seasons. LSG retained Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, and Ayush Badoni, but let go of notable players like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Krunal Pandya, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Marcus Stoinis.

"We wanted to retain players with the mindset to win, who would put the team winning above their personal aspirations," Sanjiv Goenka said.

Goenka highlighted the impressive performances of the retained players, particularly Nicholas Pooran, who was their top retention pick for ₹21 crore. Pooran had an exceptional IPL 2024, scoring 499 runs at a strike rate of 178.21 and earning a spot in the ICC T20 World Cup Team of the Tournament.

Mayank Yadav, another retained player, impressed with his lightning-fast deliveries in IPL 2024 and made his debut for India later that year. The next goal for LSG will be to perform well in the mega auction, where they will utilize their ₹69 crore purse and right-to-match (RTM) card to strengthen their squad.
