Inspired by previous captain MS Dhoni's custom, current skipper Suryakumar Yadav showed a passing on the trophy gesture to the younger players on the squad. The Indian T20I squad skipper let Riyan Parag and Rinku Singh raise the trophy for the team photo following a 3-0 series triumph against Sri Lanka.
India won a clean sweep with a stunning Super Over success in the third game against Sri Lanka at Pallekele on Tuesday night in a nail-biting affair. Following the game, Suryakumar Yadav took the trophy he had received from the authorities over to his ecstatic squad, placed next to the "champions" board.
Yadav passed on the honour, giving the trophy to Rinku Singh and Riyan Parag, then moved aside while the squad celebrated the hard-earned triumph. One may check the video documenting this ecstatic event:
Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal part in India's triumph over Sri Lanka Friday night. Despite his low score of eight runs, his astute choice to entrust the ball to Rinku Singh during the last two overs, when Sri Lanka need nine runs, had a significant impact.
Rinku Singh achieved a remarkable feat in his first T20I over by taking two wickets and only allowing three runs to be scored. Subsequently, Surya assumed the task of delivering the last over himself. Surprisingly, it was his debut over in T20I cricket, during which he conceded a mere five runs and dismissed Maheesh Theekshana and Kamindu Mendis.
In the subsequent Super Over, Sri Lanka could only accumulate a total of two runs. Yadav subsequently struck a boundary on the initial delivery, therefore ensuring victory for India.
