During the India vs England clash, David Willey achieved a notable feat by dismissing former India captain Virat Kohli for a duck, a moment that did not escape the notice of former England skipper Michael Vaughan. Taking to social media, Vaughan humorously commented on Willey's situation, quipping, "Does getting Virat Kohli out for a duck automatically get David Willey an England central contract...!!!"

England's ongoing struggles in the ODI World Cup, combined with the intriguing contract development, have only added to the drama and intrigue surrounding this highly competitive tournament. England have lost four matches in a row and their World Cup campaign is in shambles. England won the toss and elected to field at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Batting first, India lost a few early wickets but Rohit Sharma and Kl Rahul steadied the ship with a 91-run partnership. After the dismissal of KL Rahul, Rohit scored some runs along with Suryakumar Yadav in another partnership. While KL Rahul scored 39 off 58 balls, Rohit smashed 87 off 101 balls. Suryakumar Yadav contributed with 49 off 47 balls. India finished with a total of 299/9 in 50 overs.

India bowlers were on fire from the beginning with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami producing a brilliant opening spell. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja contributed in the middle overs to help England dismiss for 129. India won the match by 100 runs. Rohit was named the player of the match for his brilliant innings.
