Yashasvi Jaiswal on Verge of Breaking Brendon McCullum's Record, Rohit Sharma Eyes 1000-Run Feat
The opening Test between India and Bangladesh is set to begin on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
As India gears up for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh , two of its premier batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma , are on the verge of achieving significant milestones in 2024.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been a revelation for India in Test cricket, has amassed 1033 runs from 14 matches at a stellar average of 60.76, with two centuries and five half-centuries to his name. The 22-year-old is also closing in on a major six-hitting record in Test cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is just eight sixes away from surpassing the record for the most sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket. The current record of 33 sixes was set by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum in 2014 across nine matches.
In 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal has already struck 26 sixes in just six matches, scoring 740 runs at an astounding average of 74, with a top score of 214 not out. A single six in the upcoming series would see Jaiswal overtake England captain Ben Stokes, who has smashed 26 sixes this year.
