In an extraordinary display of athletic prowess and marital support, Hunter Woodhall clinched his first Paralympic gold medal in the men’s 400m T62 final at the Stade de France on Friday, September 6. His victory comes just weeks after his wife, Tara Davis-Woodhall, secured her own gold medal in the women’s long jump at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, held at the same venue.

The Woodhall family is gold

Hunter Woodhall’s triumph in the 400m T62 event marked a significant personal milestone, as he completed the race in 46.36 seconds, surpassing Germany’s Johannes Floors. This victory was particularly sweet for Woodhall, who had previously lost to Floors at the Tokyo Olympics and finished third in the same event in 2021 behind the Netherlands' Olivier Hendriks.

Reflecting on his victory, Hunter Woodhall shared, “Before the Olympics , Tara was writing in her journal, ‘I will be the Olympic champ...’ I brought my journal with me and the past few days I’ve been writing in there, ‘I will be Paralympic champion,’ and that’s come true.”

He credited the support and inspiration from his wife, stating, “Every day with Tara we are eating together, training together, recovering together. I also have an incredible team. Those people are who make these moments worth it.”

“I was so nervous, I was so pumped – knowing he was ready to run and how much he wanted to win. And now he has,” Tara Davis-Woodhall said.

Hunter Woodhall’s win is not just a personal achievement but also a testament to the couple’s shared journey and mutual support. Tara Davis-Woodhall’s gold at the Olympics set a high bar, and her husband’s victory at the Paralympics highlights the remarkable synergy and resilience they share as athletes and partners.
