While it is India against the world at the global extravaganza, i.e., the Paris Olympics, when more than one contender of a single nationality is present in a single discipline there remains a chance of them squaring off for the big prize. India's ace Shuttlers Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy found themselves on the same horizon. Both made it to the Round of 16 of the Men's singles in Badminton, but only one could proceed to the Quarterfinal as they were up against each other at the stature. Lakshya Sen, who looked ominous till now in the competition, picked apart his Indian compatriot in straight games to advance to the next round.
Lakshya Sen launched a relentless attack on HS Prannoy, who kept defending to an extent but could not find the opening to put Sen under pressure. Sen won the contest 21-12, 21-6. The Indian will now take on Chou-Tien Chen in the last 8 and will vie to cement a spot in the semi-final.
After crashing out of the Paris Olympics, HS Prannoy laid out a heartfelt note using social media. Gutted Prannoy expressed that he wanted to be on the podium and will take pride in being an Olympian. However, he accepted the uncertain nature of the sport and sent his best wishes to Lakshya Sen and backed him to bring home the glory.
"I was not sure what to expect coming into these Olympic Games, with so many uncertainties. But then, that’s how sport works. I still wanted to be on that podium, but sometimes the journey teaches you more than the destination. A special shoutout to Lakshya keep fighting and bring home the medal, bruh ! Thank you to everyone for all the support. This journey has been unforgettable Will always cherish the tag of an Olympian. That was a dream."
