Gmail gets Happening Soon tab, redesigned summary cards

Gmail gets new features: Google today announced that it is adding two new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features to Gmail. First is a new tab called 'Happening Soon'. Google says that its new Happening Soon tab will sit at the top of inboxes and that it will offer timely updates about upcoming events to the users without opening individual emails.

According to the details shared by Google, users will see their purchase summary cards in the Happening Soon section when the product that they have ordered is about to get delivered. Users will also see their upcoming events in the Happening Soon tab. "For example, once the estimated delivery date of a purchase is two days away, “Happening soon” will show the purchase summary card, allowing you to see when your package is arriving at a glance," Google wrote in its blog.

"If you have multiple deliveries arriving in the same timeframe, the summary cards are stacked, and you can expand, dismiss or click to go directly to the related email," the company added.

In addition to introducing the new Happening Soon tab, the company also announced updates to the Summary Cards. Until now, Summary Cards appeared inside emails and they enabled users to get important details without going through the entire email. Now, Google has updated this feature making Summary cards more accessible and actionable.

Google said that Summary Cards will appear inside the new Happening Soon tab and that they will show details for four popular email categories -- purchases, bills, travel and events. With the updated Summary Cards, users will be able to track their packages, make reservations at restaurants or concerts, view and pay bills and manage their travel bookings.

In addition to this, users will also be able to take actions, such as getting directions while traveling or inviting others to an event using these summary cards.

Availability

As far as availability is concerned, Google has already started rolling out purchase summary cards on Android and iOS. It will start rolling out summary cards for events, bills and travel along with the new Happening Soon card in the coming months.
