WhatsApp Status update: WhatsApp today announced new features coming to its platform. The said that it is bringing a new feature called Private Mentions to Status that will enable users to tag other users in their status updates privately.

WhatsApp, in a blog post, detailing the feature said that with Private Mentions, users will be able to mention other users in their status updates. The people who are mentioned in a post will get a message from the user who shared the status in the chat saying that they have been mentioned in a status along with a link to the status. WhatsApp will not show the name or number of the people mentioned in a status update to others who can see the status.

Furthermore, the company said that users, who have been mentioned in a status, will be able to reshare the status in which they have been mentioned this. This functionality is similar to the one available in Instagram and Facebook.

The company, in a support page, clarified that users can mention up to five people on a status at a time, all of whom will be notified separately and that they will not see each other's names in the status update.

WhatsApp Status Likes

WhatsApp is also rolling out a new Status Likes feature to the Status section within the app. This feature enables users to like a contact's status update just as they like a post on Meta's photo and video-sharing platform, Instagram.

"Let someone know you’re thinking of them, or enjoying their status with a single tap of the [green heart] button," WhatsApp wrote in a blog post detailing the feature.

The company also said that Status Likes are private and that no one can see the exact number of people who have liked a status. "... so only the person whose status you liked can see them as a [green heart] in the list of viewers," the company added.

As far as availability is concerned, WhatsApp says that it has started rolling out these features to all Android and iOS users globally.
