Google’s next affordable smartphone, likely the Pixel 9a, is still more than six months away. While it may come out typically around the next Google IO conference, the Pixel 9a’s first look has been leaked. The third smartphone in the Pixel 9 series will likely continue to have a sleek design but without the camera visor on its back. Instead, the cameras will sit flush with the Pixel 9a’s back, looking similar to that of the LG V60 ThinQ.

A prolific tipster who goes by OnLeaks claims to have obtained what looks like the first press renders of the Pixel 9a. The smartphone has two camera sensors in a capsule-sized module instead of a visor. While it has curved edges, the bezels have widened compared to the display design on the Pixel 9. However, that is expected on Google’s next affordable phone, which may cost under $500. The Pixel 9a looks very identical to the now-discontinued LG V60 ThinQ from its rear, while the front looks a lot like the Pixel 8a.

The Google Pixel 9a may not be as powerful as the regular Pixel 9 following the tradition of Pixel’s A-series smartphones. Some of its specifications may be similar to those of the Pixel 8a. This means customers can expect a 6.1-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. However, it will use the Tensor G4 chipset that also powers the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. The Pixel 9a’s battery may also be larger than Pixel 8a’s. Launched earlier this year, the Pixel 8a came with a 4492mAh battery.

However, the Pixel 9a may come with Android 15 out of the box – something that the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro could not do. Interestingly, Android 15 has still not begun rolling out to users, but it may be available on eligible devices by the time Pixel 9a comes out. Google is expected to offer seven years of major Android OS upgrades on the Pixel 9a.
