MediaTek today launched the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 flagship chipset. This chip has been developed using 3nm process and it offers significant upgrades over its predecessor, that is, the Dimensity 9300 chip. MediTek's Dimensity 9400 chip offers supports for a host of advanced features such as on-device artificial intelligence (AI), support for generative AI-powered applications, hi-res lossless Bluetooth audio playback and tri-folding smartphones to name a few.

MediaTek says that the Dimensity 9400 is up to 35 percent more power efficient and offers up to 40 percent fast raytracing performance than the Dimensity 9300 chipset. It also offers up to 41 percent peak performance boost and up to 15 percent faster CPU performance compared to its predecessor.

As far as availability is concerned, MediaTek says that the smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9400 will be available in the market starting the final quarter of 2024.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400: Specifications and features

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 features an octa-core processor that clocks a speed of up to 3.63GHz. MediaTek says that its newly launched chip includes the company's second-generation Arm Cortex-X925 core, which offers up to 35 percent faster single core performance and up to 28 percent faster multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300. MediaTek says that the CPU in the chip offers a touch response time of less than 100ms, which in turn offers up to 35 percent faster app launch speed compared to its predecessor. Additionally, it offers support for LPDDR5X RAM.

MediaTek's newly launched system-on-chip (SoC) also features support for a host of gaming-focused technologies. The company said that the Dimensity 9400 comes with a 12-core flagship graphics engine that uses Arm’s new fifth generation GPU architecture to offer up to 41 percent faster peak performance, up to 40 percent faster raytracing performance and up to 44 percent power efficiency. It also supports technologies, such as MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0, MediaTek Frame Rate Converter and HyperEngine's Super Resolution, all of which offer a smoother gaming performance.

On the AI front, the Dimensity 9400 is powered by the MediaTek NPU 890, which offers support for multiple LLMs (Large Language Models) and features such as on-device video generation and on-device AI training. The Dimensity 9400 supports WQHD+ displays with a screen refresh rate of up to 180Hz and tri-port MIPI for tri-folding displays.

Coming to the cameras, this newly launched chipset comes with Imagiq 1090 ISP that supports up to 320MP camera with a maximum video capture resolution of 7690 x 4320 pixels. MediaTek says that this chip offers gen-AI Super Zoom functionality that can achieve up to 100X magnification in photos. Additionally, it offers full range HDR zoom with smooth zoom switching and sustained target autofocus capabilities. On the audio front, this chipset supports up to six mic and 24-bit audio recording capabilities. It also supports AI Audio Focus and hi-res lossless audio at 2x sound sampling rate.

Lastly, the connectivity. The Dimensity 9400 has tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with support for up to 30m greater Wi-Fi range, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, NavIC L5 and Dual SIM Dual Active, Dual Data mode for 5G and 4G network for connectivity.
