Amazon Opens Largest Campus Building In Hyderabad For 15,000 Employees

As part of its long-term commitment to India, Amazon has established a new campus in Hyderabad. Spread over 9.5 acres, Amazon's new campus in India can employ more than 15,000 employees. It happens to be the company's largest building globally and Amazon's first owned office building outside the United States. Amazon's workforce in India is more than 62,000 full-time employees. What's more, the company also has approximately 1.55 lakh contract employees working for it. Amazon's new facility in Hyderabad will be used to to create an Alexa Pod and experiment the skill beta testing for Alexa Skills.

Amazon largest campus inaugurated

The new campus was inaugurated at the hands of Mohammad Mahmood Ali, MLC and the Minister of Home, Prisons, Fire Services of Telangana state.

"Telangana is happy to host Amazon’s largest building campus in the world. Amazon has played a significant role in creating job opportunities in Hyderabad for more than a decade. This facility was built in a record time of just over 3 years, showing the ease of doing business with the Government of Telangana. It also showcases our investment-friendly policies and commitment to create a hub for high quality talent pool," said K Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana.

"We are excited to inaugurate our largest campus building globally here in India at Hyderabad. Over these last 15 years we have invested significantly in India across 30 office spaces, the AWS APAC Region in Mumbai, 50 Fulfilment Centers in 13 states of India as well as hundreds of delivery stations and sort centres, creating nearly 200,000 jobs in India. This new Amazon campus building is a tangible commitment to that long-term thinking and our plans for India," said Amit Agarwal, SVP and Country Manager of Amazon India. "I would like to thank the Government of Telangana for its investment-friendly policies and continued support that has always encouraged us to continue to invest and grow our operations here."

Some of the highlights of Amazon's new campus in Hyderabad

  • The total built-up area will span over 68 acres, which is equal to approximately 65 football fields.
  • The construction of the facility was awarded the Golden Trophy and Certificate from the National Safety Council for safe construction practices in 2018
  • In terms of weight, Amazon's new campus contains more than 2.5 times more steel than the Eiffel Tower.
  • The buildings inside the campus are accessed by 49 elevators with elevators.
  • The campus also has one conference room seat for every 3.25 workstations.
