Apple Acquires Shazam, The Music Recognition App At $400 Million

Apple has acquired Shazam, the music recognition app. Reportedly, the deal has been sealed at an approximate US$ 400 million.

Shazam, ne of the world’s most popular applications used for music recognition by billions of users, has been reportedly snapped up by Apple. Speculation is rife that the company has completed the process of acquiring this popular app to boost its Music market in a deal worth approximate $400 million.

The Vice-President of Apple Music, Oliver Schusser, commented that Shazam and Apple have had a long past together. “Shazam was one of the first apps available when we launched the App Store and has become a favourite app for music fans everywhere.” Apple also announced that the app would be ad-free.

Apple is known to be an innovator in the music industry. Coming together of both the companies “provides users with even more great ways to discover, experience and enjoy music.” While it is not yet known on how the company plans to blend Shazam into its interface completely. However, the song-recognition feature is already integrated with Siri.

Transforming the music industry with the introduction of the iPods at the start of the century, the company has not looked back ever since. Apple has acquired and merged with close to 100 companies until now. These include Siri, the intelligent personal assistant; Beats Electronics, a headphone company which was the one of largest acquisitions ever made at US$ 3 billion and PrimeSense, a 3D light sensing technology that helps in face ID recognition. Earlier this year, Apple also acquired Texture, a digital magazine subscription service and Akonia Holographics, a company that produces lenses for augmented reality.
