WhatsApp for Android is now rumoured to get a custom dark mode. But do users want it is the question at this juncture. It is also worth noting that WhatsApp on Windows Phones already offers something like a dark mode user interface (UI) and with Windows Phone users now being reduced to a shrinking minority, it could, in fact, make sense for the feature to debut on Android platforms.

Here, WhatsApp UI for Android is fairly different as that of Windows. Now, a new concept image shared on social media by WABetaInfo (quoting a reliable follower) does not help but convey the apparent fact that there may be (or maynot be) a truly dark mode interface for WhatsApp for Android. Gauging the leaked (concept) image, it is not totally clear as to if a dark mode UI for Android is represented by it.

However, rumour mills are rife about new features that are expected by loyalists to hit the popular messaging app. These include the likes of a dark mode interface as well. Hence, expecting the feature may not be harmful at this point in time; but WhatsApp is yet to officially throw light on whether or not the custom night mode UI is in the works. What do you think?

The dark mode, in case official, for Android should practically help in battery conservation up to an extent, apart from the regular information exchange.

In related WhatsApp updates, the messaging app was reportedly hit by an outage apparently affecting 1.5 billion users. The issue which is now fixed was in fact acknowledged by WhatsApp. Click here to check out to know if you were amongst the users affected by the issue.

The messaging app also now allows forwards up to only 5 recipients. This is in a bid to curb the fake news menace in India.”Starting today, WhatsApp will be implementing this change, globally i.e. all users on the latest versions of WhatsApp can now forward to only five chats at once. The new change will continue to help keep WhatsApp focused on private messaging with close contacts,” stated folks at WhatsApp in a blog post.
