Social networking giant Facebook seems to have rolled out a new feature to let users unsend messages on Messenger. It comes in less than a week after we saw a report saying that this kind of feature could be in the works. There can be many reasons why this feature can come in handy, whether it's to unsend an embarrassing message, or to delete a message sent to the wrong person or to escape from all those innumerable typo faux pas you make all the time. We saw numerous reports in the past indicating that Facebook Messenger’s delete message feature could be around the corner. These reports started to make the headlines ever since FB secretly removed some private messages sent by its chief Mark Zuckerberg.

Features like these are not unknown for Facebook products. Instagram and WhatsApp, two other Facebook-owned products, have a similar feature to offer. However, Instagram has a time limit for deleting a sent message, unlike WhatsApp. WhatsApp initially allowed users to delete a message within 7 minutes of sending it. That has now been extended up to well over an hour. According to TechCrunch, Messenger users get a 10-minute window to delete a sent message.

Delete message feature is gaining a momentum across instant messaging apps these days. Telegram lets users unsend a message without any time restriction. But unlike WhatsApp, it leaves no traces by showing that the message has been deleted.

How to delete a message on Facebook Messenger

TechCrunch reports that Messenger’s delete message feature is currently limited to select countries like Poland, Bolivia, Colombia and Lithuania. The report further goes on to say that Facebook has plans to make it available to the masses globally as soon as possible.

Step 1: Once the message is sent, long-press the message.

Step 2: Choose the option “delete for everyone.”

Step 3: Confirm that you want to delete the message.
