Social media giant Facebook said they will pull the plug on their "Moments" app from February 25 citing lack of users as the reason. Facebook Moments is their standalone app designed to let users privately share photos and videos.

Although Facebook hasn't shared the exact number of users using the app, Facebook is shutting down Moments because not a lot of people are using it.

According to a mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, Moments has 87 million users (including both iOS and Android). Moments recorded 10.7 million downloads in June 2016. That, however, came down to about 150,000 downloads last month.

Facebook notified "Moment" users that they are shutting down the app next month.

"We're ending support for the Moments app but we know the photos people share are important to them so we will continue offering ways to save memories within the Facebook app," Rushabh Doshi, Director of Product Management for Moments told CENT.

However, users will have an ample amount of time to backup their data before Facebook completely kills the platform in May. Facebook has set up a website to let users export their photos to PCs or phone camera rolls.

People can also choose if they want to upload their Moments photos to an album on Facebook's main app. By default, Moments photos are stored in those albums so that only you can see them.

Facebook launched Moments in 2015 to let users share photos with friends without uploading them on Facebook.
