The preview of a new, redesigned version of Firefox for Android is out and it claims to be twice as fast as all of its previous versions. So, Firefox for Android users can soon expect to see a significant design overhaul to the browser in terms of user interface that is believed to be minimalist and easier to use. Furthermore, it also supports collections, which is Mozilla's alternative for bookmarks.

At the moment, what we are looking at here is only a preview but eventually, it will become Mozilla's default Firefox browser for Android.

In 2017, Firefox rolled out significant changes to its desktop browser 'Quantum' with an aim to improve its speeds, user interface and experience. Now, Firefox is doing something similar to Mozilla's GeckoView browser engine that powers its Android apps including Firefox Reality and Firefox Focus among others.

"While all other major Android browsers today are based on Blink and therefore reflective of Google’s decisions about mobile, Firefox’s GeckoView engine ensures us and our users independence," said Firefox team in its blog post.

"Building Firefox for Android on GeckoView also results in greater flexibility in terms of the types of privacy and security features we can offer our mobile users. With GeckoView we have the ability to develop faster, more secure and more user-friendly browsers that deliver unprecedented performance," Firefox added.

Features of Firefox Preview

# Mozilla claims Firefox is up to twice as fast as previous versions of Firefox for Android. The navigation bar has now shifted to the bottom.

# 'Collections' feature lets users save, organise and share collections of websites. So, you can quickly save tasks such as your morning routine, shopping lists, etc.

# Firefox Preview blocks trackers by default that protects your online privacy.

How to try Firefox Preview

You can install Firefox Preview for Android right now. Simply go to Google Play Store and search for Firefox Preview or open this link. Interestingly, it comes with two these: Light and Dark.
