Google Assistant ambient mode is now rolling out to more Android devices, according to reports. Google Assistant ambient mode was initially announced at IFA 2019 event in Berlin. At the time of its initial announcement back then, Google Assistant ambient mode was limited to Smart displays.

When Google first introduced the Google Assistant Ambient Mode, it was initially limited to smart displays. During IFA 2019, Google expanded the presence of Assistant to Portable devices, including Google Nest Home, in addition to smartphones and tablets.

What is Google Assistant ambient mode?

As Google explains, the Assistant can come handy even when the device is charging on a nightstand or at any place in your house. Google describes the Assistant ambient mode as the 'visual overview' that can keep users posted about reminders and notifications. You can still start a playlist and control smart home devices on the lockscreen of your device.

When it goes inactive, the Assistant will personalise your device's screen and show photos linked to your Google Photos account. However, the Google Assistant ambient mode is different from the Always-on display on your device. Following its initial announcement in September, the Assistant ambient mode was only limited to two tablets from Lenovo.
