Amrita Pritam is the latest to have a dedicated Google doodle. This doodle proves Google’s intense focus on India, especially the lesser-known personalities having made a difference to societies around them. In this regard, Amrita Pritam holds the distinction of being one of the first well-known Punjabi authors (and poets) in the country. Amrita Pritam is also a Jnanpith awardee.

Why Google doodling Amrita Pritam is a celebration?

At this point in time, Google doodling Pritam and highlighting her works is a potentially sure way of understanding more about the poet by the rest of the Indian populace. Here, it is worth remembering that Google also not too long ago recognized the contributions of legendary Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar and dedicated a doodle to the thespian in 2017. The Amirta Pritam Google doodle has also led to tributes pouring in from multiple Indian celebrities. These personalities have taken to micro-blogging site Twitter to dedicate their wishes to the late poet who is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award – becoming the first woman in the process to win the coveted honour. Google's India focus

Finally, it is heartening to witness Google's focus on the lesser-known aspects of India and help in bringing these to light through its digital initiatives. More recently, Google had doodled the Indian general elections. This made for an interesting scene. Netizens, here, were guided through the different steps involved in voting as well.
