Hack:

  • Google Maps for Android has now seemingly been updated
  • These reported features let you keep your speed limits under check

Google Maps for Android has now seemingly been updated with the ability to display and let users report speed trap cameras during navigation. Not too long ago, this feature was rumoured to go live at the earliest.

Now it seems that the detection of speed trap cameras in routes during navigation while allowing users to report speed cameras for other users on the same route to keep watch of, is said to have gone live. Though, this feature was still to reflect when we checked out Google Maps, rumour mills are currently rife with the “speed trap camera feature”.

Also, the new update to Google Maps is also said to issue notifications to users with respect to accidents on a particular route (which users intend to take), potentially offering alternative directions. Hence, if you are a user, do check if there is a new blue-coloured custom icon reflecting in your route. If yes, click on these icons - these should be the speed trap cameras. Also, if you spot a speed camera in your route, do report these for other users to take adequate precautions and avoid having to shell out penalties/fines for overspeeding.

The ability to report accidents should also have gone live now if rumours are anything to go by. Once an accident is reported, if you see new custom icons coloured red these should be the accident reports in your route.

In this regard, it is not known if the above reported functionality is live for Apple iOS platforms. Do not expect these features for Windows Phones, in case you are still amongst the rare breed of Windows Phone users.
