It looks like Google Maps has started allowing users to create public events and share those events with other members. This new feature was first spotted by Android Police, describing what the feature is going to be all about. Apparently, this new feature works through the ‘Contribute’ section in Google Maps. To recall, ‘Contribute’ previously allowed users to rate businesses.

Google hasn’t officially announced it yet but it’s currently available for select users. At the moment of writing this, Google Maps events feature may be limited to Android users. However, we are expecting a more widespread roll out to the desktop as well as iOS users of Google Maps. According to reports, the performance of the app is somewhat inconsistent at the moment, which explains why the feature is not accessible to everyone.

According to the Android Police report, there is no clarity with regards to the eligibility criteria determining the availability of the ‘Add event’ feature to Google Maps’ users. Google has outlined the procedure to add, edit or delete public events in Google Maps. Here’s what you need to know. But Google notes that this feature might not be available in some areas.
