Google Translate has now bettered the instant camera translation feature as the translation now supports Hindi and a full list of 88 languages. For starters, the instant camera translation feature within Google Translate application (app) works when you just point our camera at a signboard which is written in a language alien to you. After this, the very next instant, the unknown language is translated into a dialect that you understand.

To translate text in unknown languages, you should be connected to a stable internet connection. As far as Indian languages are concerned, Hindi is a supported source language; meaning Google Translate through the Instant Camera Translation feature recognizes that Hindi is the language that needs to be translated to a language desired by the user.

“What’s more exciting is that previously you could only translate between English and other languages, but now you can translate into any of the 100+ languages supported on Google Translate,” states Google in an official blog post.

Then, users should notice a minor new user interface improvement. The new look also comprises of a section at the bottom of the app, there are three aspects here called “Instant”, “Scan”, and “Import” that support translation.

Finally, you should remember that the above new features are enabled (and driven) by Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) - both disruptive technical aspects. These, when used in tandem with other technical aspects like the Internet of Things (IoT), could even better society. Click here to check out an instance of this.
