How to enable automatic login in Windows 10

Entering username and password each time you want to use your Windows 10 PC can be painful. But in case you are wondering, there are ways you can log into your Windows 10 desktop or a laptop without having to enter your login credentials. Sure, you can always get rid of your system login. But it can be risky. So, we show you ways to automate your Windows 10 login without comprising the security of your PC.

Method 1

If you are a single user, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Right-click the Start button and then click Run from Windows 10’s hidden quick access menu. You can use keyboard shortcut with this combination: Windows key + R.

Step 2: Enter netplwiz and hit ‘Enter.’ Make sure you are the admin since you will be prompted to enter the admin username and password.

Step 3: Uncheck the box “Users must enter a user name and Password to use this computer.”

Step 4: Re-enter your system’s username and password to confirm and click ‘OK.’

Method 2

You can tweak certain system settings to enable automatic login:

Step 1: Open Settings panel from either the start menu or Run command and go to Accounts > Sign-in options

Step 2: Find the option ‘Require Sign-in’ and change to option to ‘Never.’

Method 3

If you have some knowledge of Windows Registry, you can follow these methods to set up automatic login.

Step 1: Open Windows Registry by searching ‘regedit’ in the Windows 10 start menu search box. You can use Run dialogue to input the same command.

Step 2: Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon” or you can search for ‘Winlogon.’

Step 3: On the right side, Double-click DefaultUserName and check if your system’s admin username appears in ‘Value.’ Similarly, search for DefaultPassword and enter your password in the ‘Value’ field. Click OK.

Step 4: Search for AutoAdminLogon > Double-click > Change value from 0 to 1.

Method 4

If you are not comfortable with Windows registry, you can simply download Autologon utility from official Microsoft website. It will automatically grab your username in the domain field. All you need to do is enter your system password manually.
