Instagram Will Now Let You Know Who's Online


Instagram's new update lets people see others online status

Days of ignoring someone’s DM and continuing to scroll through your feed on Instagram might have come to an end.  

In its latest update, the Facebook-owned platform has enabled users to see other user’s online status.

In its official release, the company state that with its new update, they are aiming to make it ‘easier for the user’ to connect with friends and family by knowing when they are available to chat.

"DMing friends and connecting over the content you love is more fun when you know your friends are there to see it. This update gives you the ability to have more of those realtime conversations while giving you the control to hide your status altogether." the company said. 

After it's the latest update, Instagram will now show a green dot on the bottom right of the display picture of the users. The feature is also available for Instagram Direct but only for the people you've already talked to.

Noting that Instagram is owned by Facebook who also owns WhatsApp. Both of which continue to be used extensively for chatting.

Instagram was launched in 2010 as a photo and video sharing platform. However, since its inception, the platform has gone through numerous updates that might have deviated it from its meant purpose.

A week ago in its last update, Instagram added one more ‘sticker’ to its Stories, which let the users to ask opinions or questions to all their followers. The update came when users were already angry with the messed up chronological order of the posts.

Many users took to the internet against the update stating that the platform was trying to make its Stories even more ‘thirstier’.
