Microsoft Office combines Word, Excel and Powerpoint into a single app

Microsoft's new Office mobile app combines all its products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and brings them all under a single app. This way, Microsoft is making a unified Office mobile app available to Android and iOS users.

Microsoft has finally announced the public preview of its Office mobile app for Android and iOS.

How to access Office app for Android in public preview

It should be pretty simple. Just head over to Android and iOS app stores to download the public preview of the Office app, which is available for free to use. Although you need not sign in to get started, logging in gives you access to files associated with your account and stored in the cloud.

Step 1: Join the OfficeMobileAndroidPreview group on Google by using your email ID. Click here.

Step 2: Click 'Join this group' option.

Step 3: Once you've joined the group, you will receive a link to the Play Store listing of the app.

Step 4: Select the option 'Become a tester.'

Step 5: You will receive a confirmation that you've successfully joined the testing program.

Step 6: Get early access to the app by downloading it via Play Store.

"We started by combining the existing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint mobile apps into a single app. Doing so brings all of your Office documents together in one place, reduces the need to switch between multiple apps, and significantly reduces the amount of space used on your phone compared to multiple installed apps," Microsoft's Bill Doll said.

The standalone Office app is about 90MB in size.

There are many reasons why Microsoft decided to merge all Office products like Word, Excel and PowerPoint into a single app. The company says the standalone app saves storage and reduces to switch between app to a significant extent, the company. Another reason could be the reduce the amount of maintenance required to manage and monitor separate apps.

There's absolutely no guarantee that a person using the Word app will also use the PowerPoint app. But in any case, having to install separate apps is a really tedious task and Microsoft is probably looking to fix it.
