Software giant Microsoft wants to "enrich your chat experience" on Skype, the company's online video-calling service. Skype recently added some new features such as draft message, bookmark messages, media previews, etc. It seems like Skype is now looking to be more like WhatsApp Messenger. The Facebook-owned instant messaging app has more than 1.5 billion users worldwide. Although Skype's new features focus primarily on chatting, Skype also added what it calls "new approach to display multiple photos or videos."

"We recently introduced several features that help you boost your productivity when sending messages in Skype and enrich your overall chat experience. New features include draft messages, the ability to bookmark messages and preview media and files before sending, as well as a new approach to display multiple photos or videos. We also launched split window, so you never mix up conversations again!" The Skype Team said in the blog post.

Skype mimics WhatsApp?

One of the features Skype introduced with the latest update is Message drafts. Skype will save messages you typed in the text box but didn't send for some reasons. Whether it's network delay or app crash, Skype wants to ensure that you don't lose your conversation. Message drafts are pretty common with emails. Telegram messenger also saves unsent messages in drafts. It goes without saying, messages saved as drafts are available when you exit the app and get back in later.

Skype also added another feature called bookmark messages. As the name suggests, it lets users bookmark any message on Skype. Message bookmarks feature comes in handy when you quickly want to save a message and access it later. Here's how you can bookmark any message on Skype. On the desktop, right-click on the message and select the option 'Add bookmark.' On mobile, you simply need to long-press the message and tap 'Add bookmark' option.

Media previews

Similar to WhatsApp and Telegram, Skype added media previews feature to its service. The feature allows users to preview media (photos, videos and GIFs) before sharing them with your friends or family members on Skype. What's more, Skype also allows users to add a caption/description along with the media. Here's what Skype had to say.

"You can now preview photos, videos, and files that you’ve selected to share before sending. Once you select media and files to share, they’re displayed in the message panel, so you can ensure they’re the ones you want to share with your contact. You can also remove ones added by mistake or add new ones right from the panel. In addition, should you want to write an explanation or description for what you’re sending, you can add a message that will be sent along with the files."
